How to Cross the Street in Vietnam with Sharon

July 11th, 2007 · No Comments

Crossing the street in Vietnam is a little hairy at times. Since they don’t obey traffic laws, you step out into the street and hope that they don’t hit you as everybody dodges you. Here’s how to cross the street with Sharon.

  1. Inform Sharon ahead of time that we need to cross the street.
  2. Ignore the back talk about how we don’t have to cross the street.
  3. Grab Sharon’s hand firmly.
  4. Survey traffic and move Sharon to the side so she can’t see the oncoming traffic
  5. Boldly step off the curb tugging Sharon onto the street.
  6. Encourage Sharon to keep going “Keep moving, don’t stop, walk consistently” and pull her into the traffic
  7. Ignore the piteous whimpering sounds coming for Sharon
  8. Push Sharon onto the curb when it approaches
  9. Let go of Sharon’s hand
  10. Look around for an even bigger street to cross or better yet a roundabout…
